Nitric Acid Leak Prompts Evacuations, Closure of Arizona Interstate 10

Residents living near Interstate 10 in Tucson, Arizona have been asked to evacuate and the freeway has been closed following a nitric acid spill caused by a commercial tractor-trailer crash.

Authorities have asked anyone within a mile radius of the crash, which occurred near Kolb Road, to evacuate. Tucson Fire, Pima County Office of Emergency Management, Arizona DPS, and the Department of Public Safety's Hazardous Materials Response Unit are working to respond to the emergency.

The evacuation order has been lifted, however, an extended closure of I-10 is still impacting the commute of many Tucson residents today. The driver of the truck has passed away and there are no reported hospitalizations due to exposure to the substance.
