What Other Apps Does ByteDance Own Besides TikTok?

While TikTok is under threat of being banned in the US if its Chinese parent corporation, ByteDance, does not divest and sell its US operations, the focus on TikTok has overshadowed the fact that ByteDance has several other apps, including CapCut, which is ByteDance’s third-most-popular app worldwide. CapCut is a video-editing app that has over 200 million monthly active users as of January. The app offers a suite of advanced, easy-to-use video-editing tools like visual filters, audio add-ons, photo-mixing, and integration with other video apps such as TikTok. ByteDance's portfolio includes various games, news aggregators, photo- and video-editing tools, and virtual reality software across continents.

The primary concern people have about TikTok is how user data will be accessed by the Chinese government, given ByteDance's connection to the Chinese Communist Party, which owns a 1 percent stake in the company. ByteDance's other products could also be on the chopping block in the US if the government takes a similar tack. A recent Washington Post poll found that while some US lawmakers are pushing for a ban or restrictions on TikTok, more Americans back a TikTok ban than oppose one with a majority expressing concerns over the app's links to China. However, ByteDance's other apps pose lesser concerns.
