Louisville Officer Credited as a Hero after Being Shot in Mass Shooting

Did the heroic actions of a Louisville officer just coming off the academy save countless lives in a mass shooting? Nickolas Wilt was among three officers who were injured when a shooter opened fire on Monday morning at Old National Bank in downtown Louisville. Four victims lost their lives when the 25-year-old shooter used a rifle and live-streamed the event. According to Gray News, Wilt ran towards the gunfire and was shot in the head during the incident. He emerged from surgery later in the day in critical but stable condition. Ironically, Wilt had just graduated from the LMPD Police Academy on March 31.

The University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky postponed their baseball match scheduled for Tuesday night in response to the shooting which has already attracted significant attention. The shooter is reportedly formerly employed by Old National Bank. No motive has been reported.
