Celebrating Black Excellence in Art and Fashion for Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, the Hyde Collection is presenting “The Harmon and Harriet Kelley Collection of African American Art: Works on Paper.” Featuring nearly 70 watercolors, pastels, drawings, and prints, the exhibit showcases artwork created by African American artists during the Great Depression, the abstract impressionist movement of the 1950s, and the civil rights activism of the 1960s and 70s.

To further honor Black excellence, the Brownwood Art Association of Texas is also hosting "Our Voice: Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award," an exhibition that pays tribute to the award-winning illustrators of the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature. The exhibition features 34 framed prints alongside the books that inspired them.

In Lancaster County, the Crispus Attucks Community Center is presenting a Black History Month Fashion Show. With the goal of highlighting African American beauty and artistry, the show will feature regional designers, students from the School District of Lancaster and other community members as models.

This month, join us in celebrating the unique contributions of African American high art, illustration, and fashion as we recognize and elevate their influence
