Eight Injured in Two Related Shootings in Washington, DC

Eight people, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured in two related shootings in southeast Washington, DC on Friday night. Police responded to the first incident around 10 p.m. ET, finding seven men with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds on the 500 block of Lebaum Street SE, Congress Heights neighborhood. During their investigation, police were informed of a second shooting located less than a mile away in the 2600 block of 2nd Street SE, where the young girl was found shot in the leg. Both scenes had multiple shell casings found and are believed to be connected. Witnesses told police they saw a black sedan, possibly a Mercedes, driving through the area, firing indiscriminately at people on Lebaum Street. The motive and suspects behind the shootings are unknown. Police are asking for the public's assistance and ask anyone with information to call them. This marks the fourth mass shooting in the District and the 169th mass shooting in the United States this year.
