Denver High School Shooting: Two Faculty Members Shot

A male student shot two faculty members at the East High School in Denver on Wednesday morning, prompting a citywide hunt for the assailant, who is believed to be a 17-year-old African American juvenile named Austin Lyle. Lyle, who is under 18, was under a school safety plan where he was searched every day before entering school. The incident prompted Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas to tell parents that two armed officers would be present at the high school for the remainder of the year. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock called removal of armed police officers from school a “mistake” and supported returning them to schools. The motive behind the shooting was not immediately known. The two faculty members were hospitalised; one is in a critical condition and the other is stable.
