Residents of Oklahoma are being warned to brace themselves for a powerful wind storm, with widespread severe gusts of up to 110 miles per hour and strong tornado potential, expected to hit in the evening on Sunday. The National Weather Service has warned the storm is a derecho with a line of fast-moving thunderstorms and could span across western, northern and northeastern Oklahoma.
In order to prepare for these potentially damaging winds and tornadoes, the National Weather Service has urged Oklahomans to secure loose objects and drive cautiously, or stay away from doors and windows if in the most high-risk southwestern area of the state. The Oklahoma Weather Service suggests that residents anticipate possible power outages and prepare for potential F3 tornado classification with wind speeds higher than 200 m.p.h.
