Taliban Kills Mastermind Behind Kabul Airport Bombing

US officials have revealed that the "mastermind" behind the suicide bombing in Kabul airport, which resulted in the deaths of 13 US troops and about 170 people, was killed by the Taliban in recent weeks. The senior administration official did not name the leader of ISIS-K, the group behind the attack, but said that it had become "aware in recent weeks that the ISIS-K terrorist most responsible for that horrific attack…has now been killed in a Taliban operation." The Taliban, which is against ISIS-K, carried out the killing without US involvement, but the US has welcomed the Taliban's efforts to suppress the group. ISIS-K has been responsible for the recent rise in terror attacks and plots in Afghanistan, and the general responsible for the Middle East warned last month that the group was trying to plan attacks against the US and American interests overseas. With the US withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, the administration was unable to prevent the resurgence of terrorism on Afghan soil.
