Paul Warne's Beliefs Inspire Derby County

Derby County are on a remarkable 19-game unbeaten run and manager, Paul Warne, is looking to keep that up as they approach their FA Cup fourth-round match against West Ham United and remain in a fight for promotion back to the Championship. Warne's emotional speech to his Rotherham team back in 2020 and his openness with his Derby players are inspiring the squad in ways many of us can all relate to.

Warne spoke fondly of his first home game as manager in October and the emotions it brought up thinking of how proud his father would be of him. He also expressed his beliefs about the changing attitude of today's managers which, for Warne, is about displaying vulnerability and emotional connection with his players, regardless of machismo culture still present in football.

Warne is not afraid to demonstrate his emotions, even if it means crying. He requires his players to be open and trusting of him, so he has to show them he is vulnerable and has empathy. He believes his characteristics would not have been accepted in the football world in the 80s and 90s.
