Florida Governor Ron DeSantis broke his silence on the possible indictment of former President Donald J. Trump on Monday, accusing the Manhattan District Attorney of having political motivations. DeSantis’ comments came after two days of increased pressure from Trump’s team and allies, demanding he speak out against the possible indictment.
DeSantis demurred when asked whether he would have a role in extraditing Trump to New York, but he did note the actions over which Trump is likely to be indicted, hush-money payments made in late 2016 by Michael D. Cohen to a porn star.
The governor then attacked the Manhattan District Attorney, saying he was being “weaponized” to “impose a political agenda on society at the expense of the rule of law and public safety.”
Clearly furious at the lack of support from Mr. DeSantis, President Trump
