Cloud-based software provider Five9 is reportedly considering options for a sale, more than two years after a failed buyout by Zoom Video Communications. Zoom abandoned its $14.7 billion acquisition of Five9 in October 2021 after shareholders voted against the deal. Now, Five9 is working with advisers to gauge interest from potential buyers and has already held discussions with Zoom about possibly resurrecting the deal. The company is also likely to attract other strategic suitors. Five9's shares closed over 7% higher following the news, giving the company a market capitalization of $6.2 billion. While there is no certainty that these deliberations will result in a sale, the potential sale marks a shift in strategy for Five9 as it navigates new opportunities in the market. Zoom and Five9 have yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.

EyePoint Pharmaceuticals recently released positive results from a clinical trial of its experimental drug for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), causing its stock price to nearly triple. The drug, called EYP-1901, is a sustained-delivery treatment that releases medicine gradually over time, potentially extending the time between injections for patients with the most severe form of the condition. The midstage clinical trial showed that EYP-1901 was as effective as the current treatment when injected every six months, compared to injections every two months. Other approved drugs for AMD require monthly or more frequent injections. If approved, EYP-1901 could reduce the treatment burden for patients, particularly elderly patients who rely on regular injections to maintain their vision. EyePoint Pharmaceuticals is also testing the drug for two other retinal conditions affecting diabetic patients. With the market for AMD treatments projected to reach $10 billion annually by 2028, EyePoint hopes that EYP-1901 could become a first-line treatment for wet AMD or be used in combination with other therapies. About 1.5 million Americans suffer from wet AMD, a condition that can lead to severe vision loss if left untreated.
